A white paper can serve numerous objectives. It can describe in detail a new product or service, or else expound on a novel solution to a pressing business problem. They can range from the highly technical to the theoretical. No matter the character of a white paper, a well-produced one will leave readers wanting more. If you are selling a product or service, it should lead them to contact you and chose you. If you are seeking investment capital, it should convince potential investors that your innovation has the potential to be the next big thing in your given industry.

White paper planning is essential before beginning the writing process. It is the first step to ensure we have a workable outline, content strategy, and timeline in place that will make the project run smoothly. The white paper plan is comprehensive enough that you can choose to finish the white paper in-house, using it as a guide. Or else, hire me to write it for you. The planning fee is due in full before starting work.

case study

A case study, also known as a customer success story, is a first-hand account of your client’s experience when using your product or service. It is a valuable piece of sales collateral, as it is credible proof that you have succeeded in tackling a problem for a previous client. The most critical part of case studies is the client interview, where I speak with your client and draw out vibrant, laudatory quotes that make you the hero that saved the day. My background as an international trade magazine journalist refined my interview skills so I know how to draw out the best in my interview subjects.

case study research fee: $350

In order to craft a narrative specific to your company and industry, I conduct research into your company and client. This is a one-time fee, meaning that if there are multiple case studies it is only charged for the first one.

case study writing fee: $1,800 – $2,500

The fee for writing a case study will vary depending on length. I charge between $500 and $1000 per page, which scales as page number increases. The average page length for a case study these days is between 2 and 3 pages. The writing fee is due half upon beginning the project, and half upon completion.

design

Visual design is crucial to the success of your written asset. Particularly with a white paper, not only the page layout, but diagrams and infographics should be deeply integrated and interdependent with the narrative. All my white papers include initial diagram sketches, while I can manage the final design in coordination with the graphic designer.

strategy

Once your asset is written and designed, it must reach your audience. I can help you with LinkedIn and social media posts, lead-in blogs, gated download forms, customize the asset for conferences and events, place PR letters, among other outreach strategies, all in coordination with your marketing team.

strategy fee: $150/hr (can be packaged into a monthly retainer for extended strategy engagements)

a note on portfolio items and confidentiality 

All of my work is ghostwritten. As I have advanced in my writing career, I have found that NDA’s are more prevalent. Particularly in the competitive tech industry, and among companies with new innovations, confidentially is paramount. Therefore, I have selected the assets in my portfolio to be those that are publicly facing and do not contain sensitive info. These samples give a clear and accurate representation of my work. While I’m unable to share additional private or proprietary content, I’m happy to discuss my experience and approach in more detail if helpful. White papers related to military technology in active war zones, or internal case studies for major enterprise clients, while some of my proudest work, cannot be divulged.
